School Facilities Maintenance Technician

Position OverviewJames Irwin Charter Schools is seeking a dependable, skilled, and hands-on School Facilities Maintenance Technician to help maintain safe, clean, functional, and welcoming facilities across our campuses.This position performs a variety of general maintenance, repair, custodial, and grounds-related duties. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, notices what needs to be done, can troubleshoot basic facility issues, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.Because school operations occasionally require maintenance outside normal working hours, schedule flexibility is important—particularly during winter months for early-morning snow removal and when responding to facility emergencies.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform routine inspections and preventative maintenance of school buildings and facilities.Troubleshoot and complete minor repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, doors, fixtures, and other building systems.Identify maintenance and safety concerns and address or report them promptly.Assist with custodial duties as needed, including classrooms, common areas, restrooms, and other school spaces.Maintain school grounds, walkways, parking areas, and exterior spaces.Perform seasonal grounds work, including snow and ice removal. Snow removal may require early-morning hours before the start of school.Monitor facilities for vandalism, damage, security concerns, and needed repairs.Maintain an inventory of maintenance and cleaning supplies and request additional materials as needed.Follow established safety procedures and immediately report hazards or unsafe conditions.Respond promptly to facility emergencies, including leaks, power outages, equipment failures, and other building-related issues.Coordinate and communicate professionally with school staff, facilities personnel, vendors, and outside contractors.Complete work orders and maintain documentation of maintenance and repair activities.Assist with special projects and other facilities-related duties as assigned.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Previous facilities maintenance, building maintenance, custodial, construction, or related experience preferred.Vocational or technical training in a maintenance-related field is a plus.Working knowledge of common maintenance tools and equipment.Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building repair.Ability to troubleshoot problems and complete tasks independently and efficiently.Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.Ability to communicate professionally with staff, students, families, visitors, vendors, and contractors.Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and moving heavy objects, climbing ladders, bending, standing for extended periods, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.Ability and willingness to work flexible hours when necessary, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends.Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license required.Must successfully pass CBI and FBI background checks.Pay & BenefitsStarting Pay: $18.50–$20.00 per hour, depending on experienceEligible full-time employees receive a competitive benefits package that includes:100% employer-paid employee health, dental, and vision insuranceFree on-site staff daycare at our Astrozon campus, based on availabilityColorado PERA retirementPaid time off and paid vacationLife insuranceHealth Savings Account (HSA), when applicableProfessional development assistanceScheduleFull-Time | 260 Days per Year | 8 Hours per DayThis position is based in Colorado Springs and may require travel between James Irwin Charter Schools campuses.
