Position Overview

We are seeking qualified candidates for a nursing position in a Progressive Care Unit located in Overland Park, KS. This unit specializes in the care of patients with cardiac and pulmonary conditions, managing moderate physiological instability while providing necessary support and monitoring.

Unit Specifics

Number of Beds: 18
Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
Unit Staffing: 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and 1 Unit Secretary
Type of Equipment: Alaris pumps, Kangaroo pumps, Pyxis, Computers available in every room
Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling Requirements

Self-scheduling with inclusion of 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
No on-call requirements

The floating policy prioritizes staff as follows:

Patient Experience Requirements

The team aims to enhance patient experiences by focusing on nursing courtesy and respect, and fostering teamwork in patient care.

Required Certifications

ACLS
BLS
NIHSS

Advanced Skills Needed

This unit cares for patients with conditions such as:

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbation
Pneumonia
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
Tracheostomy patients

Telemetry and Pulmonary patients are hemodynamically stable and require cardiac and respiratory monitoring every 2-4 hours. The level of care provided is greater than that of Medical/Surgical Units but less than that of ICU.

Nursing Interventions

Nurses will be expected to perform the following interventions:

Vital Signs monitoring every 4 hours
Continuous cardiac monitoring
Blood glucose monitoring every 4 hours
Neurological assessments (NIHSS) as needed

Dress Code

Required uniform consists of royal blue attire.
