Location: Remote

Duration: Initial assessment followed by an anticipated six- to eight-week implementation
Schedule: Full-time or part-time, with availability during standard business hours

Candidate Pay Range: $40- $55 an hour DOE

Position Overview

Transition Staffing Group is partnering with a San Diego-based nonprofit organization seeking an experienced Temporary Financial Analyst for a short-term accounting systems improvement project.

This consultant will assess, clean up, and optimize the organization's MIP accounting system, with a focus on improving financial reporting, general ledger configuration, budgeting, grant management, and related accounting workflows.


Key Responsibilities

• Assess the organization's current server-based MIP accounting environment.
• Review the general ledger structure, chart of accounts, account coding, transaction flows, and closing and offset accounts.
• Identify and correct configuration issues affecting financial reporting.
• Configure or improve financial statements, Form 990-related reports, budgets, grant reports, and other critical nonprofit financial reports.
• Reduce the organization's reliance on exporting general ledger data and manually preparing reports outside the system.
• Review budgeting and grant-management functionality and recommend improvements.
• Evaluate accounting workflows and integrations with accounts payable, payroll, and fundraising systems.
• Assist with improving the flow of fundraising data from GiveSmart into accounts receivable, as needed.
• Partner closely with the organization's finance leader to review configuration decisions and confirm that changes meet operational and reporting needs.
• Coordinate with the organization's IT team and MIP customer support on system access, configuration, training, and technical questions.
• Document findings, completed changes, outstanding issues, and recommended next steps.

Required Qualifications

• Previous nonprofit accounting experience is required.
• Strong understanding of nonprofit financial statements, fund accounting, Form 990 reporting, budgeting, grants, and government-funded programs.
• Advanced accounting knowledge, including general ledger structures, account coding, financial-statement preparation, closing processes, and offset accounts.
• Experience using an ERP or accounting system
• Experience configuring, building, correcting, or producing financial reports within an accounting system.
• Strong technical aptitude and the ability to understand system workflows, integrations, and reporting configurations.
• Ability to investigate accounting and system issues, ask effective questions, and recommend practical solutions.
• Availability to collaborate with the organization's finance leader during regular business hours.
• Ability to work independently while remaining highly collaborative throughout the engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with MIP Fund Accounting or MIP Cloud.
• Previous involvement in an accounting system implementation, conversion, migration, cleanup, or optimization project.
• Experience supporting organizations with government, county, Medicaid, or grant-funded programs.
• Familiarity with accounting-system integrations involving accounts payable, payroll, fundraising, or accounts receivable.
• Experience working in a consulting, fractional, or project-based accounting capacity.
