Maintenance Technician - Decatur This Maintenance Technician will troubleshoot and repair dairy processing plant equipment, packaging equipment, and supporting utility systems. What you will do The Maintenance Technician will troubleshoot and repair dairy processing plant equipment, packaging equipment and supporting utility systems and equipment. Here’s a day in the life Performs highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant’s facility equipment; complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas. Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs during machine service. Prepares and sets up machinery for scheduled production runs. Performs mechanical skills including, but not limited to, packaging mechanical, refrigeration, PLC/process controls, dairy systems mechanical, electrical, welding/fabrication, and general maintenance. Reads and interprets drawings, equipment manuals, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests, and makes adjustments; uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public. Communicates effectively. Acts as a team player and interacts harmoniously with staff at all levels. Performs all other duties as assigned. Works under pressure, meets deadlines, and is flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrates excellent time‑management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision. Regular and reliable on‑site attendance is required. Must be able to work 12‑hour shifts with rotating days off. Knowledge, skills, and abilities High school diploma or GED or 1 to 3 years related experience; Associate’s degree or trade school certification preferred. General plant mechanical maintenance history required. Allen Bradley PLC programming, Panel View, DeviceNet, ControlNet, and strong electrical and instrumentation background. Strong background and experience working within a team. Proven ability to methodically think through problems with detailed step‑by‑step processes. Ability to work any shift and weekends. Forklift certification required. Salary Information Hourly position with a starting wage of $30; actual compensation determined by experience, certifications/licenses, and other factors permitted by law. Shift differential of $1.00 per hour applies to night shifts, if applicable. Physical requirements Sitting Standing and/or walking Lifting 55 lbs. Vision for machine or computer operations Hearing Ability to climb stairs Working Conditions Maintenance work is normally in a plant environment and can include working outside in all weather conditions, working in confined spaces, poorly lit areas, and walking on uneven, slippery surfaces. The job requires standing majority of the shift, walking on uneven, slippery surfaces, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing ladders and stairs.
