Engineering Project ManagerThis role offers the opportunity to manage complex engineering and research projects supporting critical government and defense missions. You will work closely with principal investigators, program managers, engineers, researchers, sponsors, and cross-functional teams to keep projects aligned with commitments. The position combines project planning, financial and schedule tracking, quality assurance, subcontract coordination, and technical reporting. You will help translate project objectives into organized plans, milestones, deliverables, and actionable processes. The environment is highly collaborative and multidisciplinary, with work performed within secure facilities and alongside teams developing advanced visualization, analytics, GIS, simulation, and collaboration technologies. You will have the opportunity to influence project execution, improve processes, and contribute to technology initiatives with meaningful national impact.Accountabilities:Track project costs, schedules, milestones, quality assurance activities, risks, and delivery commitments to support successful project execution.Collaborate with principal investigators, program managers, project engineers, researchers, sponsors, and stakeholders to coordinate project activities and maintain alignment with objectives.Facilitate and coordinate subcontract management activities, including expenditure tracking, reporting, invoicing, deliverables, documentation, facility and equipment requirements, and subcontractor review meetings.Coordinate project development processes, procedures, and workflows, identifying opportunities to improve project execution and organizational efficiency.Prepare, refine, and coordinate technical and executive-level briefings for internal and external stakeholders.Track Contract Deliverable Requirements Lists (CDRLs) to ensure deliverables are complete, accurate, high quality, and submitted on time.Prepare project reports, technical documentation, meeting materials, and other program-related deliverables.Support the acquisition, tracking, and disposition of project other-direct-cost items, including equipment, software, and licenses.Coordinate meetings, events, and communications for offsite project team members to help ensure internal and external commitments are achieved.Work closely with enterprise functions such as IT, Security, Subcontracts, and Facilities to communicate project needs, track actions, and ensure timely resolution.At higher levels, facilitate the development of project budgets, work breakdown structures, rough-order estimates, task priorities, and integration plans.Develop or refine project-specific processes and procedures and research recommendations for project management policies, principles, and practices.RequirementsBachelor's degree and relevant professional experience; advanced-level roles require 3+ years of relevant experience, while intermediate-level roles require 1+ year, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Demonstrated project management experience, including cost tracking, schedule and milestone management, quality assurance, and commitment tracking.Experience supporting projects through financial and technical reporting, meeting facilitation, planning, and coordination of facility or equipment requirements.Strong proficiency with Microsoft applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.Experience with Atlassian tools, including Confluence and Jira.Excellent organizational, communication, coordination, and prioritization skills.Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary, team-oriented environments with diverse technical and organizational stakeholders.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project activities, deliverables, and deadlines simultaneously.Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, executives, sponsors, and external partners.For higher-level positions, experience developing budgets, work breakdowns, estimates, project priorities, and integration plans is valuable.Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Top Secret/SCI level.U.S. citizenship is required.Ability to successfully complete required background checks and comply with applicable security, drug-testing, electronic monitoring, and physical monitoring requirements.Ability to work in a secure environment where access to personal electronic devices may be restricted.Experience supporting defense, intelligence, federal government, engineering, or research programs is advantageous.BenefitsCompetitive salary range of $62,304–$102,900, depending on position level, qualifications, and experience.Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.Robust retirement and savings programs.Generous paid time off, including holidays, vacation, and sick leave.75% tuition discount for eligible employees, spouses, and children.Opportunities to contribute to advanced engineering, scientific research, and technology initiatives supporting critical government missions.Collaborative, multidisciplinary work environment with opportunities to engage with researchers, engineers, technical experts, and program leaders.On-site work in State College, Pennsylvania, or Reston, Virginia, with potential hybrid flexibility depending on project requirements and manager approval.Professional development opportunities within a major research and technology organization.Opportunity to support mission-critical projects involving visualization, analytics, GIS, simulation, and collaboration technologies.Work in a secure environment supporting high-impact national security and defense-related initiatives.
