Manager, Biomedical Services-Beverly, MA

The Manager of Biomedical Services is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, operational performance, and service delivery of Biomedical Services within assigned facilities, service lines, specialty programs, or geographic areas across Beth Israel Lahey Health. The Manager ensures the safe, reliable, efficient, and compliant inspection, maintenance, repair, installation, and support of medical equipment and related technologies in accordance with enterprise standards and regulatory requirements.

The Manager provides direct leadership for Biomedical Services personnel, oversees workload and resource allocation, monitors operational performance and compliance, supports equipment and technology initiatives, coordinates internal and external service resources, and serves as a key liaison with clinical, operational, and administrative stakeholders within assigned areas.

Reporting to the Director of Biomedical Services, the Manager collaborates with Clinical Engineering, Clinical Systems Engineering, Quality, Vendor Services, Supply Chain, Information Services, and other stakeholders to ensure consistent service delivery, operational excellence, and effective support of patient care.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

1. Manage day-to-day Biomedical Services operations for assigned facilities, service lines, specialty programs, or operational areas, ensuring consistent execution of enterprise standards, service expectations, and organizational priorities.

2. Provide direct leadership for assigned Biomedical Services personnel, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, coaching, development, corrective action, recognition, succession planning, and employee engagement activities in accordance with BILH policies.

3. Plan, prioritize, and allocate staffing, workload, schedules, technical resources, on-call coverage, and service assignments based on equipment complexity, clinical priorities, service demand, staff competency, and operational requirements.

4. Monitor and manage operational performance, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, inspections, installations, equipment availability, backlog, response times, documentation quality, productivity, customer satisfaction, and other key performance indicators, implementing corrective actions as necessary.

5. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, Quality Management System, safety, risk-management, and organizational requirements, including maintenance of accurate equipment inventory and service documentation within the CMMS.

6. Respond to significant equipment failures, service disruptions, clinical escalations, and patient-safety concerns, ensuring timely resolution, effective communication, and appropriate escalation of risks and issues.

7. Coordinate medical equipment installations, replacements, upgrades, relocations, and other operational projects, ensuring appropriate planning, staffing, documentation, site readiness, implementation, and transition to ongoing service support.

8. Collaborate with Vendor Services, Biomedical Services leadership, and external service providers to coordinate contracted services, monitor vendor performance, obtain required service documentation, and address service-related concerns.

9. Support management of operating budgets, staffing plans, inventory controls, parts management, overtime and on-call requirements, equipment needs, and cost-improvement initiatives within assigned operations.

10. Utilize operational and service-performance data to identify trends, recurring failures, workload concerns, resource needs, and opportunities for performance improvement and operational efficiency.

11. Develop and maintain effective relationships with nursing, physicians, clinical departments, Facilities, Information Services, local administration, and other stakeholders to support customer satisfaction and timely resolution of service issues.

12. Promote staff development and operational excellence through coaching, competency development, cross-training, career-development planning, Lean methodologies, process improvement initiatives, and standard work practices.

13. Participate in emergency-management activities, service escalations, and after-hours support processes as required, and provide operational data, recommendations, and performance updates to support broader planning and resource-allocation decisions.

14. Perform other Biomedical Services management responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Engineering, Healthcare Technology Management, a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

• Licensure, Certification & Registration: CBET, CHTM, or other relevant healthcare technology certification preferred.

• Experience: Seven or more years of progressively responsible Biomedical/Healthcare Technology Management equipment-service experience, including at least three years of demonstrated supervisory, team-leadership, or progressively responsible operational leadership experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

• Broad knowledge of biomedical equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance programs, service operations, regulatory requirements, CMMS documentation, workforce planning, customer service, vendor coordination, and medical equipment support in acute and non-acute healthcare environments.

• Demonstrated ability to supervise technical personnel, prioritize work, respond to operational escalation, analyze service-performance data, and communicate effectively with technical, clinical, and administrative stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

• Dept./Unit-Specific Skills: Biomedical equipment service operations, workforce and workload management, preventive and corrective maintenance performance, customer relationships, regulatory/QMS execution, CMMS documentation, vendor coordination, emergency response, and continuous improvement.

Pay Range:

$125,000.00 USD - $160,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
