Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to:• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including mental status exams, diagnostic assessments, and risk assessments for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD).• Develop, implement, and manage individualized psychiatric treatment plans, including medication management tailored to the unique needs of the I/DD population.• Monitor and adjust psychotropic medications, considering side effects, interactions, and efficacy with careful attention to communication challenges and behavioral presentations common in I/DD individuals.• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including psychologists, social workers, Nursing, and DSAs to provide integrated and holistic psychiatric care.• Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care when necessary.• Educate patients, families, and DSAs about psychiatric conditions, treatment options, medication side effects, and behavioral strategies.• Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory standards and clinic policies.• Participate in team meetings, local committees, Life Plan meetings, case conferences, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives focused on psychiatric care for the I/DD population.• Stay current with advances in psychiatric care and best practices related to I/DD through continuing education and professional development.LinkedIn:

Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive:New York State License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse AND certification by the New York State Education Department in the Psychiatry specialty area to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. Additional Comments This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.• Please note that starting salary for this title reflects the increased hiring salary, geographic pay differential and downstate adjustment.
