Position Overview

A premier global manufacturer of high-reliability industrial power products. Our solutions power mission-critical applications across the semiconductor, automotive, aerospace, defense, and test & measurement sectors.

Operating from our New Jersey design and manufacturing center of excellence, the Compliance Engineer owns the product safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and regulatory certification program across the entire product lifecycle. Reporting directly to the Director of R&D, this individual serves as the final authority on certification strategy, testing coordination, agency audits, and compliance governance.

This role partners closely with R&D, Hardware Design, Purchasing, Quality, and Operations to design compliance directly into high-voltage, high-power architectures from concept through end-of-life.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Strategy, Agency Liaison & Certifications

• Own and drive end-to-end global product certifications (UL, CSA, TÜV, CE Mark, UKCA, CB Scheme) across the programmable and industrial power product portfolio, establishing project schedules, milestones, and testing budgets.

• Serve as the primary technical liaison and final decision-maker with accredited testing laboratories, Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs), and regulatory agencies.
\n
• Oversee pre-compliance and formal certification test campaigns, verifying test plans, witnessing tests, reviewing test reports, and driving prompt resolution of technical findings.
\n
• Author and direct global market-access declarations of conformity (DoC), Technical Construction Files (TCF), safety risk management files, and CB test reports.
\n
• Monitor emerging global regulatory standards and directives (e.g., updates to IEC/UL 61010-1, IEC 62368-1, grid-tied codes, and regional environmental laws), evaluating impact on product roadmaps and advising R&D leadership.
\n

Design Integration, Approved Components (ACL) & Engineering Changes

\n
• Embed compliance requirements into R&D design gates from initial architecture through production release, advising on creepage/clearance, protective bonding, thermal margins, component derating, and isolation barriers for high-power equipment.
\n
• Direct the maintenance and governance of the Approved Components List (ACL) / Critical Components List (CCL) across all product families.
\n
• Hold final approval authority on Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and component substitutions to evaluate compliance impact, determine if re-testing or agency notifications are required, and prevent unvetted design creep.
\n
• Lead product launch readiness sign-offs, verifying all safety marks, rating label nomenclature, safety instructions, and agency approvals are finalized prior to commercial release.
\n
• Partner with Component Engineering, Purchasing, and Supply Chain to ensure second-source and alternate components meet required safety and regulatory certifications.
\n

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) & Environmental Governance

\n
• Oversee EMC compliance strategies (conducted and radiated emissions, ESD, surge, EFT, conducted immunity) to ensure adherence to industrial laboratory and commercial standards.
\n
• Collaborate with power electronics design engineers to troubleshoot emissions/immunity failures, advising on magnetic shielding, grounding topology, and filtering.
\n
• Direct corporate compliance with global environmental regulations, including EU/China RoHS 3, REACH SVHC, SCIP database submissions, TSCA, PFAS tracking, and WEEE requirements.
\n

Compliance Management, Audits & Continuous Improvement

\n
• Define, maintain, and enforce corporate product compliance procedures, internal safety testing standards, and compliance design guidelines.
\n
• Lead agency factory inspection audits (UL/CSA/TÜV Follow-Up Services) for the manufacturing facility; investigate audit variances and drive immediate resolution.
\n
• Manage compliance non-conformances, certification lab deviations, and audit findings through formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) systems.
\n
• Modernize documentation workflows using digital tracking systems and AI-assisted tools to streamline technical construction files, automate regulatory updates, and accelerate time-to-market.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Electronics Engineering Technology (BSEET), Quality/Regulatory Affairs, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent direct technical experience in power electronics compliance will be considered.

• Experience:
\n
• Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in regulatory affairs, product safety compliance, or certification management within an electronics manufacturing environment.
\n
• Direct experience leading safety certification submissions (UL, CSA, TÜV, or CB Scheme) from product inception to formal listing.
\n
• Proven experience managing compliance for industrial power products, high-power electronics, switch-mode power systems (SMPS), or test and measurement systems.
\n
• Certifications & Training:
\n
• Formal training in UL Standards / UL Fundamentals (or proven practical equivalence).
\n
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 internal auditing practices and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
\n

Preferred Qualifications

\n
• Experience with IEC/EN/UL 61010-1 compliance specifically applied to programmable power supplies, AC/DC sources, or laboratory instrumentation.
\n
• Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements for test and calibration laboratories.
\n
• Formal training in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), CAPA methodology, and Six Sigma/Lean practices.
\n
• Experience managing material declaration platforms (e.g., Assent Compliance, SiliconExpert, Arena/Agile PLM).
\n
• Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) or Certified Product Safety Manager (CPSM) designation.

Physical Demands & Lab Work Environment

\n
• Lab Safety: Periodic work inside R&D testing labs around high-voltage equipment, three-phase AC mains (up to 480 VAC), and high-amperage DC power outputs.
\n
• Auditing: Active presence on the manufacturing floor during internal compliance reviews and external NRTL surveillance audits.
\n
• Travel: Minimal (up to 10%), occasionally required for external test agency witness testing, technical seminars, or customer/supplier visits.
