Senior Accountant - Nonprofit Finance & Compliance

A mission-driven nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance activities. This role will work closely with finance leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial management in a dynamic nonprofit environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules Assist with month-end and year-end close processes Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards Support preparation of financial statements and internal management reports Monitor restricted and unrestricted funding activity and assist with grant tracking Coordinate with external auditors during annual audit and tax filing processes Review accounts payable, expense allocations, and cash transactions Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and applicable regulations Support process improvements and documentation of accounting procedures Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles Experience with general ledger systems and financial reporting tools Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism #J-18808-Ljbffr SpectrumCareers
