Lead Data Engineer - Richmond

Salary: $120,900 - 187,000 per year Requirements:

• We are looking for 3–5 years of hands-on Databricks experience, along with exposure to complementary areas such as data governance, reporting and dashboards, and source system technologies.
• We need proven success in a Tech Lead capacity, including directing developers and breaking down work effectively.

• We lead 3–4 build teams by providing technical guidance, coaching, mentoring, and governance.
• We may directly manage data engineers for proof-of-concepts, create coding frameworks for reuse, and develop shared data assets.
• We may also be hands-on in designing, building, testing, and supporting analytical pipelines.
• We establish and uphold engineering, design, and coding standards, including code reviews.
• We drive CI/CD practices and create reusable data tests for future releases.
• We expand our expertise into AI, ML, Lakebase, and other Databricks capabilities as needed.
• We optimize Spark performance and identify opportunities to reduce platform costs.
• We oversee production monitoring, issue investigation, and defect resolution.

This Lead Data Engineer role sits within our Life, Annuity, and Long-Term Care Data Solutions team, a high-performing mission-driven group of about 25 people across four agile teams. The position is based in Richmond or Lynchburg, Virginia for in-office applicants, follows a hybrid schedule with in-office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and targets core business hours of 9am–5pm EST. We are not offering employment visa sponsorship for this role.
