Primary Responsibilities Performs M-mode, B-mode, 2D, 3D, spectral and color Doppler echocardiograms following laboratory protocol and adjusting for patient variability; reviews medical records for pertinent history. Communicates findings to reading physicians. (essential) Performs saline contrast and UEA studies as per protocol. (essential) Generates preliminary reports with all protocol‑specified measurements. (essential) Determines study priority and adjusts schedule for urgent outpatient and emergency inpatient studies; identifies critical abnormalities and alerts the director or physicians immediately. (essential) Instructs cardiac and anesthesia fellows in scanning technique. Identifies cases of importance for teaching and research programs. (essential) Assists in training new echocardiography staff; instructs techniques to fellows, house officers, students, and colleagues. (essential) Monitors supply inventory, notifies manager for re‑ordering, maintains equipment cleanliness and operational status, and reports repair needs. (essential) Treats patient information confidentially and provides courteous, professional care to all patients. (essential) Maintains up‑to‑date echocardiography knowledge through weekly conferences and CME events; meets minimum CME requirements per ARDMS/CCI. (essential) Professional Contribution (Level II Sonographer) Active participation in educational activities within the last 12 months (e.g., faculty, board member). HCM Stress Echo: performs stress echo/dobutamine stress echo. Active scanning and competence in intraprocedural cath‑lab studies. Ongoing participation in research studies/QI projects within the last 12 months. Minimum 5 years of experience scanning ACS credential FASE designation. Required Qualifications Vocational or technical training in echocardiography. Basic Life Support RDCS (ARDMS) or RCS (CCI) certification; new graduates must obtain RDCS/RCS within 3 months of hire. Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology via college‑level biology/anatomy courses and/or relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Graduation from an accredited echocardiography program. At least three years of hospital‑based echocardiogram experience. Knowledge: Demonstrates full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and policies; applies them in varied situations. Teamwork: Works collaboratively in small teams to improve operations; offers ideas, identifies issues, respects teammates. Customer Service: Provides a high level of service to patients, visitors, staff, and external customers in a professional, respectful manner; remains calm under stress. Age‑Based Competencies: Provides care for patients aged 16–30, 30–60, and over 60 years. Health Care Status Close attention required; intermittent breaks do not compromise work accuracy. Consistent routine but demands judgment to respond to events several times a week. Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Daily: Protective equipment required (respirator, earplugs, mask, gloves, eyewear, etc.); potential exposure to infectious and bloodborne pathogens. Physical Requirements Medium work: occasional exertion of up to 50 lb and frequent exertion up to 20 lb. Requires standing and movement throughout shift. Tasks include frequent walking, standing, bending neck and waist, twisting neck and waist, power grasping with one hand, fine manipulation with one hand, pushing/pulling with one hand, keyboard use, reaching above and below shoulder height, and handling items up to 75 lb occasionally. May push items up to 250 lb with assistance. Pay Range $49.35 – $66.42 per hour (base hourly wage; may increase with shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime, and other permissible adjustments).
