Engineer 1 – Design Company: Southern Company Gas Location: Atlanta, GA Position Type: Contract Duration- 2 Years Job Summary The Engineer 1 – Design Contractor supports the planning, design, and development of technical standards for natural gas distribution infrastructure projects . This role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented engineer with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to contribute to the advancement of safe, efficient gas delivery systems. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to think critically , work independently, and communicate effectively across teams. Key Responsibilities Support gas storage and fueling station design assignments. Design pipeline components , mechanical systems, and functionality. Assist in planning and designing mechanical equipment and support maintenance activities. Perform system balances to assess and resolve pipeline system challenges. Provide field support and oversight during construction activities. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or General required). 1–3 years of progressive engineering experience in design or related field. Equivalent academic education and experience will be considered. Certifications Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) Certification preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong project management and task prioritization skills. Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to engage across all levels of the organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills required). Basic proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) . Intermediate proficiency in CAD/GIS platforms for design and mapping. Customer-focused, critical thinker , with initiative and adaptability. Proven ability to collaborate within a matrix organizational structure (cross-functional and hierarchical teams).
