The Phlebotomist I serves as the face of the organization, providing exceptional patient care while performing blood collection and specimen processing procedures. This role requires strong phlebotomy skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality, accuracy, and safety. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment and delivering excellent customer service to patients of all ages.Key ResponsibilitiesCollect high-quality blood specimens from patients using established venipuncture and capillary collection techniques.Prepare, process, label, and package specimens accurately for laboratory testing.Perform both clinical and forensic specimen collection in accordance with established policies and procedures.Verify patient information and ensure accurate documentation and record maintenance.Explain collection procedures to patients and help create a comfortable, professional, and trusting environment.Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA and company guidelines.Perform daily activities accurately and within established timelines under the direction of the area supervisor.Promote a safe, clean, and professional work environment.Demonstrate organizational commitment and maintain a positive image with patients, clients, coworkers, and the public.Utilize keyboarding and data entry systems to accurately enter and manage patient information.Adhere to quality assurance standards and safety protocols at all times.Support staffing needs through flexibility in scheduling, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call assignments as required.Required QualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma or GED required.Medical Assistant, Paramedic, or other formal medical training preferred.Phlebotomy Certification preferred (required in certain states, including California, Nevada, and Washington).ExperienceMinimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience required.One (1) or more years of phlebotomy experience preferred.Experience collecting blood specimens from pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients preferred.Customer service experience in a healthcare, retail, or service environment preferred.Data entry and keyboarding experience required.Skills & CompetenciesStrong venipuncture and specimen collection skills.Ability to perform quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.Excellent communication and patient interaction skills.Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Knowledge of specimen handling, processing, and laboratory procedures.Professional demeanor with a focus on customer service and patient care.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.Additional RequirementsMust be flexible to accommodate staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call assignments.Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift.Ability to safely collect and transport biological specimens while following all safety guidelines.
