IP Litigation Associate Attorney (Silicon Valley or San Francisco)

Direct Counsel is representing an Am Law 50 global law firm seeking a mid-level IP Litigation Associate Attorney with 3–5 years of experience to join its Intellectual Property team in either the Silicon Valley or San Francisco office.

This position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile patent litigation matters—including district court actions, inter partes reviews (IPRs), and licensing negotiations —for leading technology companies, semiconductor manufacturers, major streaming platforms, and fast-growing startups. The firm’s IP team is nationally recognized and maintains one of the highest IPR institution rates in the country

Responsibilities

• Handle all phases of patent litigation , including discovery, motion practice, hearings, and trial preparation.

• Assist with PTAB proceedings and other IP disputes.

• Draft pleadings, briefs, and legal memoranda for complex litigation matters.

• Conduct legal research and technical analysis related to patents and emerging technologies.

• Collaborate with partners, clients, and expert witnesses across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in intellectual property litigation , particularly in patent cases or PTAB proceedings.

• Technical background preferred in electrical engineering, computer science, physics , or a related field.

• Strong academic credentials from a top-tier law school .

• Excellent analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

• Admission to the California Bar required.

• Ability to manage complex matters in a fast-paced environment and work effectively within a team.

Compensation

• Annual salary range: $260,000 – $365,000
