Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

An opportunity is available for a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom setting during instructional hours. The assignment runs from August 12, 2026, through May 27, 2027, with consistent, contracted weekday hours onsite. The student uses Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, and requires an interpreter for instructional engagement only (not during lunch or arrival/dismissal periods). This role is instrumental in promoting effective and accessible communication, as the student is transitioning back from a Residential Day School Program.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Valid national certification in Sign Language Interpreting (must hold at least one of the four recognized national SLI certifications)
• Previous experience providing interpretation in an educational setting, particularly with high school students
• Strong expressive and receptive skills in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Comfort working with students who have unique educational or behavioral needs
• Ability to collaborate with instructional staff and adapt to dynamic classroom environments

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time ASL interpretation during classroom instruction (approximately 6.5 hours per day)
• Facilitate clear communication between the student and teachers, peers, and support staff
• Ensure student is able to fully access instructional content and classroom discussions
• Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards in educational interpreting
• Document services as required and communicate concerns or changes in student needs to the appropriate contacts
