Summary/Objective:

The Material Handler position assists in warehouse operations by inspecting, receiving, storing, and distributing materials. They also maintain an organized and clean work area.  The material handler follows standard work methods and practices, safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible in order to support the production goals and corporate values of Corsicana Mattress Company.

Essential Functions:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Loads materials to and from designated storage areas, such as racks and shelves, or vehicles, such as trucks.
• Stage, shrink wrap and ship customer orders.
• Stacks or piles materials, such as pallets.
• Maintain filled inventory areas in orderly manner.
• Check items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
• Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental control standards.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Maintains a clean work area and completes daily area clean-up tasks at the end of shift.  Properly disposes of trash and scrap at the end of the shift and as often as needed.
• Notifies Production Supervisor of any mechanical or material issues.
• Other duties as assigned including Line Feed duties/responsibilities.

The employee is often required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Environment:

• The employee will generally be housed in a non-climate controlled, well-lit environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

• Be able to lift up to 100lbs, stand for long periods of time

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

• Full Time 40/hr

Travel:

• None.

Required Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a warehouse environment.
• Ability to operate forklifts.
• Ability to operate pallet stretch-wrapping machine.
• Ability to operate cardboard baling machine.
• Understanding of quality standards and health & safety regulations.
• Experience in reporting on key Inventory Control metrics.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Bilingual preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication skills.
