Patient Account Representative

Job Type: Contract (6 months)

Pay: $20–$23/hour

A healthcare organization in Torrance is seeking an experienced Patient Account Representative to support a high-impact project within the Self-Pay department. This role focuses on reviewing and resolving bad debt accounts, improving collections processes, and ensuring accurate billing and account management. It’s a great opportunity for someone who enjoys digging into account details, identifying issues, and driving financial outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and analyze bad debt accounts to determine root causes and next steps (reassignment, resolution, or collections)
• Audit and evaluate accounts to identify billing or processing issues
• Document findings and contribute to reporting efforts aimed at reducing collections volume
• Process patient payments, including co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay balances
• Ensure accurate posting of payments to patient accounts
• Assist patients with payment plans and repayment options
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding billing, charges, and balances
• Support collection efforts by identifying outstanding balances and contacting patients
• Negotiate payment arrangements and assist with account resolution
• Maintain accurate records and update account information within the system
• Provide back-office support and assist on phone queues during high call volume

Required Qualifications:

• Experience as a Patient Account Representative on the commercial/insurance side
• Strong understanding of insurance processes (co-insurance, deductibles, etc.)
• Experience with denials management and/or account auditing
• Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and Excel
• High school diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Cerner
• Experience with Paro/Presumptive programs

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
