This is accomplished by responding to general and critical incidents to investigate and enforce violations; patrolling geographical limits; responding to crime scenes; processing information; and identifying, restraining and transporting suspects. Additional duties include answering questions from the public; testifying in court; assisting other officers and departments; educating the public; and preparing and maintaining reports and logs. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Patrols assigned geographical areas and enforces laws and regulations by observing areas; responding to calls; enforcing traffic laws; issuing citations; conducting security checks; gathering information from the public or callers; processing crime scenes; interviewing callers; and making arrests. Investigates accidents by interviews witnesses; clearing vehicles and debris from roadways; completing reports; and assisting other departments as necessary. Prevents crime by meeting with the public; discussing crime topics and prevention techniques; enforcing speed limits; and writing citations to violators. Responds to calls, disturbances, or crime scenes and completes processes by documenting incidents; interviewing witnesses; gathering evidence; preserving crime scenes; arresting and booking prisoners; completing reports; compiling statistics; and gathering information for further investigations. Completes follow up activities by submitting reports; testifying in court; serving warrants; transferring prisoners; attending community meetings; and assisting in special investigations and crime prevention duties. Qualifications High School graduation or GED (those with GED Certification must also have completed 12 college hours from an accredited college or university with a minimum 2.0 GPA on 4.0 scale) OR 24 months minimum of active duty military with an Honorable Discharge Supplemental Information Skill in the operation and use of standard office software which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officials Employee Benefit Information Health Insurance- BCBS Dental Insurance- BCBS Vision Insurance - EyeMed Insight Flexible Spending - Payflex Employees can set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for yearly out of pocket medical expenses. Education Pay Employees can receive a monthly additional pay for Associates, Bachelors, Masters and PHD degrees. Social Security Employee participates at 7.65% contribution with matching city funds. Texas Municipal Retirement System Employees participate in a statewide retirement program at 7% contribution with a city match of 2:1. Five years vesting, 20 years retirement at any age. Vacation Non-civil service employees accrue 6.67 hours per month (2 weeks per year). All police employees accrue 10 hours per month (3 weeks per year). All Fire employees accrue 15 hours per month (7.5 - 24 hour shifts a year). Sick Leave Non-civil service employees accrue 10 hours per month (3 weeks per year). Holidays Non-civil service employees receive 13 paid holidays per year including one personal or "floating" day. Longevity Pay Earned at a rate of $4 per month. This is calculated on number of years of service up to and including 25 years (maximum $1200). Worker's Compensation Worker's compensation coverage is provided for all employees. Fire/Police Eligible for Education/Certification pay. Deferred Compensation Plans- Mass Mutual/Empower Payroll deduction for employee participation.
