Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)

A 500+ bed acute care hospital in Salem is seeking an Emergency Room Registered Nurse to join its emergency services team. The facility provides comprehensive care across multiple specialties, including heart and vascular services through a designated Heart Center, orthopedics and spine care, behavioral health, and oncology. Position Overview The ER RN is responsible for delivering high-quality emergency nursing care to patients across all age groups and levels of acuity. This role requires strong clinical judgment, rapid prioritization, and the ability to manage multiple patients simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. The nurse will collaborate closely with physicians, ancillary departments, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure timely treatment, safe care transitions, and appropriate follow-up planning for patients discharged from the emergency department. Key Responsibilities Perform triage, assessment, and treatment of patients presenting to the emergency department Prioritize patient care based on acuity and clinical urgency Manage a diverse patient population ranging from minor injuries to critical illness Administer medications, treatments, and emergency interventions as ordered Coordinate care with physicians, specialists, and interdisciplinary teams Develop and support discharge plans and appropriate referrals Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation Communicate effectively with patients and families during high-stress situations Respond to rapidly changing patient conditions and emergency situations Support safe, evidence-based emergency care practices Qualifications Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program preferred Active RN license in Virginia or compact state license with VA eligibility required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (American Heart Association) Minimum of 1 year of ER experience in an acute care setting preferred Med‑Surg nurses considered for cross‑training (night shift only) Schedule Full-time position Day, evening, night, and mixed shifts available Rotating weekends required Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and holiday pay Retirement savings program Continuing education and professional development opportunities Cross-training opportunities within emergency services Collaborative hospital environment with multiple specialty service lines Sign‑on bonus available #J-18808-Ljbffr
