Pathologist - AP/CP

Summary of Position Perform diagnostic interpretation of surgical pathology, frozen section pathology, and/or cytology material and electronically release cases. Perform gross examination of surgical tissues. Participate in laboratory quality control, quality assurance, and hospital infection control. Consult with clients regarding the significance of pathology findings, guidance on the utilization of laboratory technologies to aid in diagnosis and treatment, and provide client follow‑up. Key Job Elements Examines and interprets prepared tissue sections and body fluids and secretions using light microscopy, electron microscopy, and fluorescence microscopy. Diagnoses disease from body tissue, fluids, secretions, or other specimens, determining stage and providing dictates. Identifies etiology, pathogenesis, morphological change, and clinical significance of diseases. Consults with referring physicians about test ordering, interpretation, and treatment options. Provides diagnostic information in written pathology reports. Participates in proficiency testing and intradepartmental meetings to ensure accurate diagnoses and quality of care. Engages in professional organizations, conferences, and seminars to stay current with developments in pathology. May perform gross examination, dissection, and description of specimens per procedure. May train and educate laboratory personnel and students in specimen processing. May take photographs of specimens for reports or archival purposes. May consult with peers on difficult cases as requested. May plan and supervise the work of pathology staff or visiting pathologists. May perform on‑call responsibilities. Completes annual training programs within required timeframe and attends staff meetings regularly. Maintains strict confidentiality. Complies with all state, federal, and professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, policies, and procedural manuals. Adheres to CAP, CLIA, state regulations, HIPAA, safety, and OSHA regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy. Unlimited and unrestricted license to practice medicine or osteopathy in the state where the laboratory is located and in applicable states where specimens are received, or eligible to obtain such licensure. Certified in anatomic or clinical pathology, or both, by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, or possess equivalently qualified credentials. Minimum of three (3) years of pathology experience in a community hospital setting. Subspecialty board certification in cytopathology or gynecologic pathology is preferred. Successful completion of a pre‑employment visual color discrimination test. Compliance with the Board of Medicine on annual continuing medical education requirements. Maintain appropriate medical staff membership and privileges at applicable medical facilities. Knowledge of biomedical, clinical, epidemiologic, and social behavioral sciences and their application to patient care and education. Knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for human diseases. Knowledge of national, state, and local regulatory requirements. Knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology, quality management, assurance, and control. Skill in written and verbal communication.
