Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist
- Accept and dispense prescription medications
- Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns
- Ensure that the supply of medicines is within the law
- Ensure that the medicines prescribed to patients are suitable
- Accurately maintain confidential records of all patients
- Advise patients about medicines, including how to take them and potential reactions
- Provide consultation on prescription and non-prescription medications
- Offer services such as smoking cessation, blood pressure measurement, and cholesterol management
- Educate patients on proper handling of medical devices
- Compound medications for external or internal use
- Prepare sterile solutions
- Supervise pharmacy staff
- Maintain appropriate inventory on pharmaceutical and medical supplies
- Identify drug-related problems and communicate with physicians and other healthcare practitioners
- Work with physicians, nurses, and other pharmacists
Requirements of the Pharmacist
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
- Licensed by the state pharmacy board
