The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The Director, Clinical Operations Informatics provides strategic and operational leadership for the integration of informatics into quality and operational improvement initiatives across the institution. Reporting to the Executive Director, Clinical Operations Informatics, this role sets the vision for enterprise-wide reporting frameworks, analytics infrastructure, and data governance practices that ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of clinical and operational data. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to clinical, operational, IT, and executive leadership, translating data strategy into actionable insight that supports institutional priorities in quality, safety, patient experience, and operational efficiency. This position also oversees human resources functions for assigned staff and acts as a change agent in advancing process improvement across the organization. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Strategic Planning & Institutional Alignment
• Develop and execute the strategic vision for the integration of informatics into quality and operational improvement processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements
• Advise leadership on informatics capabilities, risks, and opportunities.
• Represent informatics in enterprise cross-functional initiatives.
• Evaluate and advise on emerging technologies, informatics trends, and regulatory changes to inform long-term planning.
• Align informatics initiatives with institutional goals related to quality, safety, patient experience, and operational efficiency.
• Responsible for the management of human resources activities for assigned staff, which includes selection, supervision, and evaluation of performance.
• Develops and implements productivity standards and monitors actual productivity compared to the standard.
• Act as a change agent for the organization and ensure that process improvement activity is being communicated, understood, and supported within the organization Enterprise Reporting
• Oversee the design and implementation of enterprise-wide reporting frameworks and analytics infrastructure.
• Ensure consistency, accuracy, and integrity of clinical, and operational data across departments and systems.
• Lead the development and enforcement of data governance practices, including standardized definitions, metrics, and reporting methodologies.
• Collaborate with leaders to define and monitor institutional KPIs and performance dashboards.
• Guide the development of advanced analytics, predictive models, and data visualizations to support strategic decision-making.
• Creates and delivers reports and presentations as needed.
• Ensures on-time delivery of all quality and operational metrics assigned.
• Manages the delivery of data and information to executives and other customers to support institutional initiatives and to leverage information sourced from internal and external databases. Strategic Relationship Building & Stakeholder Engagement
• Cultivate strong relationships with clinical, operational, IT, and executive leaders to ensure alignment of informatics initiatives with institutional priorities.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to senior leadership on data strategy, digital transformation, and clinical performance.
• Facilitate collaboration across departments to promote shared ownership of data-driven improvement efforts.
• Represent the organization in external partnerships, consortiums, and regulatory discussions related to informatics and quality.
• Promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, and continuous learning through effective communication and engagement strategies.
• Educates clinicians, collaborators, and stakeholders on analytic principles and data methodologies. Other duties as assigned EDUCATION Required: Masters Preferred: Doctorate EXPERIENCE Required: Ten years of experience working with structured databases, programming, system analysis or related field to include five years in a supervisory capacity. Preferred: Ten years information systems or related experience in healthcare. The ideal candidate will possess current experience with CMS reporting metrics.
