The Role and Why It's Important Our Non-Registered Pharmacists are working toward full licensure while contributing meaningfully to the pharmacy team, verifying prescriptions, counseling patients, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the department. In this role, you'll work under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager, gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment. If you are a motivated pharmacy professional committed to patient care and continuing education, we'd love to have you on our team.What You'll DoProvide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive oneVerify prescriptions and counsel patients in accordance with all state and federal statutes and regulationsAssist with controlled substance inventory on an annual basis or as recommendedAssist with inventory control including ordering, stocking merchandise, checking invoices, and entering inventory informationAssist with reconciliation and balancing of third-party accounts and monthly inventoryAssist the HBC manager with ordering and merchandising over-the-counter productsCoach, counsel, and train pharmacy employees and participate in additional education and trainingVisit schools, doctor's offices, and senior centers to market pharmacy servicesBuild growth and sales through counseling and wellness programsFollow security and regulatory procedures including Quality Assurance ProgramsAssume responsibility for the department in the absence of the Pharmacy ManagerPartner with other departments and staff including dietitians to promote wellness and the pharmacyCommunicate continually with the Pharmacy Manager about procedural changes, issues, or corporate communicationsAdminister immunizations as certifiedMaintain the confidentiality of customers' private medical information and prescription drug pricing in accordance with HIPAAAdhere to all Hy-Vee policies, store guidelines, and all statutes and regulations pertaining to a pharmacistReport to work when scheduled and on timeYour SkillsApply logical and scientific thinking to solve problems involving both abstract and concrete variablesPerform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations accuratelyCompose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, and evaluate technical dataCounsel and advise patients and interact professionally with healthcare providers, team members, and store leadershipMaintain a high level of discretion and integrity when handling confidential patient and financial informationReporting RelationshipsAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Store Operations, and Perishables; Pharmacy Department Manager; Registered Pharmacist; Pharmacy SupervisorDirect Reports: Pharmacy Technician; Pharmacy Clerk; Delivery Person; Pharmacy StudentsEducation and ExperienceCollege degree and working toward licensure in pharmacy required; must maintain continuing education requirementsMedication Therapy Management (MTM) preferredAbility to administer immunizations requiredPhysical RequirementsAbility to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in the pharmacy and dispensing area, including extended periods at a pharmacy counter or workstation while verifying and processing prescriptionsAbility to verify, dispense, and counsel patients on prescriptions, and administer immunizations, in accordance with state and federal pharmacy regulationsExposure to bloodborne pathogens and sharps (needles, lancets) associated with immunization administration and pharmacy operationsAbility to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation dutiesWorking EnvironmentThis is a fast-paced role in a retail pharmacy where you will handle multiple tasks throughout your shift including verifying prescriptions, answering the telephone, and assisting customers.There is occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals or solvents during compounding, including chemotherapy drugs.This pharmacy handles and prepares hazardous drugs; personnel of reproductive capability should be aware that exposure may cause acute and chronic effects, and that following all pharmacy policies and procedures is essential to minimizing risk.Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $19.00 to $23.75 depending on experience.
