Attorney III

Position Overview Attorney III – Review Department, Los Angeles or San Francisco Office Annual Salary Range: $142,925 – $214,221. FLSA Exempt / Union Represented. Up to four days remote work per week. The State Bar Court seeks an Attorney III, a judicial staff position in our Review Department whose responsibilities include drafting opinions, conducting legal research, preparing judicial orders, and advising on disciplinary matters. About the State Bar Court The State Bar Court adjudicates disciplinary and regulatory cases involving attorneys and recommends discipline to the California Supreme Court. The Court consists of a Hearing Department (trial court) and a Review Department (appeals court). Ideal Candidate Ideal candidate will possess: Excellent research and writing skills Strong oral and written communication skills Collaboration and team‑work ability Attention to detail and sound judgment Prior judicial or appellate experience preferred Responsibilities Draft, edit, and publish judicial opinions for Review Department cases Conduct extensive legal research and analysis for disciplinary matters Prepare interlocutory orders, recommendations for summary disbarments and resignations, and other judicial orders Assist judges in formulating and applying management policies of the State Bar Court Coordinate with other attorneys, staff, and external constituencies on complex litigation matters Participate in training and professional development activities for junior staff and attorneys Employment Standards Knowledge: State Bar, California Supreme Court, and California Legislature rules and procedures Effective investigation techniques and case management Federal and California statutory law and constitutional provisions Evidence rules and trial appellate court procedures in California Effective work coordination and case/project management principles Advanced analytical, time‑management, oral advocacy, and conflict‑resolution skills Superior writing and oral communication abilities Ability: Receive and relay detailed information through verbal and written communication Conduct legal research using technology and traditional library resources Work under pressure of short deadlines and address conflict effectively Analyze complex written documents and present material orally and/or in writing Minimum Qualifications Education: Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school Experience: Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible litigation and/or legal advisory experience Demonstrated reputation for integrity and no history of disciplinary offenses as an attorney or in any other capacity License, Certificate, and Registration Requirements Active member, in good standing, of the State Bar of California DEI Statement We are a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace where all employees and prospective employees experience fairness, dignity, and respect. #J-18808-Ljbffr The State Bar of California
