Drug and Alcohol Counselor

Internship Opportunity in Substance Use Disorder TreatmentPurpose of this position: To provide an experiential learning opportunity to individuals actively enrolled in a higher learning educational institution and pursuing a degree with a focus in substance use disorder treatment. Internship experiences are a required element of degree programs for individuals who are seeking Alcohol and Drug Counselor Licensure through MN Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy (BBHT). Alcohol and Drug Counselor interns will work under the direct supervision of a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and will actively participate as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Supervision must relate to clinical practices and the amount and type of supervision must be documented weekly.Responsibilities:Conducts initial interviews with patients and recommends appropriate rehabilitative servicesProvides case management and discharge planning servicesConducts screenings and brief interventionsCoordinates care with patient's medical and treatment teamUtilizes community resources for referrals and assistanceCounsels' family members as neededConducts intakes, orientations, and counseling (within treatment services)Conducts educational classes and group meetings (within treatment services)Conducts various types of individual and group therapies (within treatment services)Participates in weekly supervision for a minimum of 1 hourOther duties as assigned
