The Laser Operator is a part of the Manufacturing Team and is responsible for the set-up and operation of the CNC fiber laser in order to produce the highest quality products to meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities include
- Operating and processing parts effectively and efficiently according to print and traveler requirements
- Monitoring machine cutting performance and utilization
- Understanding of machine setup and shut down including program retrieval, proper gases, proper nozzles, and materials
- Safely operating overhead crane, forklift, calipers, grinders, and other hand tools required for the job
- Diagnosing machining problems while performing jobs, making modifications as needed.
- Checking quality of product machined and notify supervisor of process issues
- Performing operator maintenance and/or housekeeping per established schedules
- Adhering to all JMS safety procedures and regulations
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a minimum of 1 year of laser operation experience in a manufacturing environment
- Requires use of basic math to analyze information and measuring equipment – working with close tolerances
- Ability to work safely and efficiently
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instruction and written processes
- Knowledge of sheet metal thicknesses and material types
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs – moving product off table throughout the shift
- Reliable attendance and ability to work flexible work hours (standard shift 5:00am – 3:30pm, M-Th. (Friday and Saturday OT as required)
Desired Experience and Skills
- Proficiency with nesting software – preferably ProNest
- Experience with ERP system – preferably Epicor
Education
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
