Manufacturing Engineer

This role focuses on supporting advanced product quality planning, new product introduction, and continuous improvement within a custom electro-mechanical manufacturing environment. The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure robust designs, efficient and repeatable manufacturing processes, and rapid resolution of quality issues, all while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with all internal departments to deliver on internal and external commitments, including Advanced Product Quality Planning and quality issue management.
• Lead and facilitate timely resolution of quality issues to reduce or mitigate customer impact.
• Support new product introduction by reviewing designs and documentation for robustness, manufacturability, and compliance with quality standards.
• Apply root-cause analysis techniques to evaluate in-process and field failures, document findings, and drive effective corrective actions.
• Coordinate internal audits in support of third-party certifications and ongoing continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead third-party, customer, and supplier audits performed to recognized standards and ensure timely follow-up and resolution of identified issues.
• Work with technicians, engineers, and the manufacturing team to develop, refine, and update process documentation, ensuring clear and accurate instructions.
• Gain a detailed understanding of manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improvement in quality, efficiency, and safety.
• Ensure production employees receive training on safety and quality processes and verify adherence to established procedures.
• Support and promote safety and quality initiatives such as 5S, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) controls, and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of manufacturing processes for custom electro-mechanical products, including printed circuit boards, cable and harness assemblies, and related software.

Essential Skills

• Electrical-mechanical assembly background, with experience in custom electro-mechanical designs.
• Experience working with printed circuit boards, custom cable and harness assemblies, and software-based products.
• 5–10+ years of experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment.
• Ability to interpret engineering prints, mechanical drawings, and complex electronic schematics.
• Strong understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning and quality issue management.
• Proven experience performing root-cause analysis using globally recognized techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate and support internal audits and third-party certification activities.
• Experience leading third-party, customer, and supplier audits to recognized standards.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with technicians, engineers, and production teams.
• Ability to develop, update, and maintain clear process documentation and work instructions.
• Commitment to safety and quality practices, including 5S, ESD, and FOD initiatives.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• A four-year degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Familiarity with mechanical systems and complex electronic systems.
• Experience in new product introduction within a manufacturing environment.
• Background in electronics manufacturing and process engineering.
• Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies within Lean Manufacturing.
• Comfort working closely with cross-functional teams on the production floor.

Work Environment

The role is based fully on site in an open-floor manufacturing environment, with the Manufacturing Engineer having a dedicated desk located on the production floor to stay closely connected to day-to-day operations. The environment supports custom electro-mechanical assembly, including printed circuit boards and cable/harness assemblies, and emphasizes Lean Manufacturing practices, safety, and quality initiatives such as 5S, ESD protection, and FOD prevention. The position includes one paid Friday off per month as part of the work schedule, offering a regular planned day away from work. The work setting encourages close collaboration with technicians, engineers, and production staff in a hands-on, process-focused atmosphere.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pittsburgh, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.07 - $67.30/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
