Senior Pharmacist, Medication Access

The Senior Pharmacist is an advanced practitioner in a specialized area of pharmacy practice (Medication Access under Business Services). A Senior Pharmacist is an integral member of the health care team, responsible for drug therapy monitoring, drug information, precepting pharmacy students and residents, direct patient care, publishing drug research, teaching and interdepartmental relations. This position serves as a versatile resource for the pharmacy team supporting pharmacy benefit prior authorizations, medical benefit prior authorizations, and utilization management. The Senior Pharmacist is a valued clinical provider and acts as a resource to other staff members across various departments. The Senior Medication Access Pharmacist works to facilitate timely access to care through medical and pharmacy benefits, collaborate with providers to address authorization denials, and ensure timely responses to authorization requests. The Senior Pharmacist actively participates in quality improvement projects, the documentation and reporting of clinical activities, and facilitate organizational surveys, assuring compliance with all Federal and State laws and regulations in addition to hospital policies. #CA-DS

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position .

• California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
• Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm D) from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education certified school of pharmacy, or equivalent training
• Three (3) years of relevant work experience
• Knowledge and familiarity of California Board of Pharmacy (BOP) regulations
• Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for clinic/department's customers

Preferred Qualifications

• Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Certification
• Completion of Pharmacy Practice Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) Residency
• Completion of Pharmacy Practice Post-Graduate Year Two (PGY2) or Specialty Residency
• Three (3) years of Health-System Pharmacy, Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Infusion Pharmacy, Managed Care, or PBM pharmacy practice experience

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Work Environment
