Field Project Manager
$400kCommercial Solar Guy
Position Overview
This position is in-person in MA. Candidate must reside locally full-time.
Commercial Solar Guy is a Massachusetts-based commercial solar developer and licensed general contractor and electricity with $8.7M+ in 2025 construction revenue across projects including Harvard University and Hanscom Air Force Base. We are growing rapidly, with over $16.5M in signed backlog entering 2026 and multiple concurrent projects ranging from $400K to $4M.
We are hiring a Field Project Manager to serve as our on-the-ground construction anchor in Massachusetts. This role is the critical hire for our 2026-2027 execution capacity. You will work directly with our field electrical and solar subcontractors, report to our remote PM Lead (Sena), and coordinate daily with our in-house field electrician/PM support (Scott Robbins).
Expect to be in the field 4 to 5 days per week. The exact cadence will shift based on how many projects are active and what phase they are in — some weeks are busier than others — but this is fundamentally a field role, not an office one.
This is a field-first position. The right person makes decisions on site, keeps crews moving, and owns job-level accountability day to day. If you are looking for a desk job, this is not it.
Why This Role Exists
Our PM Lead is transitioning to a remote/western-based position. She will continue to manage the PM department, oversee procurement, and handle all paperwork-heavy PM functions from a distance. What she can no longer do is be on site in Massachusetts.
With multiple projects ramping simultaneously alongside 4-6 other active jobs, we need a local, experienced field PM who can:
- Primary site-level point of contact across multiple concurrent projects
- Manage field subcontractor crews day to day without needing remote escalation for every decision
- Push the schedule, own the punch list, and close out jobs cleanly
- Represent CSG professionally with customers, inspectors, and utilities
Where You FitReports to: Sena (PM Lead, remote)
Works closely with: Scott Robbins (Field Electrician/PM Support), field electrical & solar subcontractors
Coordinates with: Benjie Borra (GV/Engineering/Design), Richelle (Interconnection/Operations), John Weaver (GM)
Core ResponsibilitiesField Execution
- Serve as CSG's daily on-site presence across 3-6 concurrent commercial solar projects, primarily in Massachusetts, & Rhode Island.
- Guide and oversee, but not directly manage, licensed subcontractor crews across multiple trades to schedule, budget, and quality standards
- Conduct daily site walks, track progress against project schedules, and flag issues early
- Receive and coordinate material deliveries to job sites, including rental equipment such as storage containers and lifts
- Take pictures, pick up needed items, meet clients, and other “small’ tasks needed to keep the construction team moving
- Drive punch list completion and coordinate commissioning activities
- Attend inspections, AHJ meetings, and utility walk-throughs as the CSG representative
Project Coordination & Communication
- Maintain job-level communication with the remote PM Lead through daily updates on active/critical phases and weekly updates during standard progress periods — frequency driven by project needs
- Track RFIs, submittals, and change orders in coordination with the PM Lead's paperwork process
- Coordinate material deliveries and equipment sequencing with the procurement team
- Flag scope changes or site conditions that affect cost or schedule immediately — proactive transparency is the standard, not the exception
Schedule & Customer Transparency
- Treat schedule transparency as a core responsibility: as soon as a delay is possible, the team is informed — not after it is confirmed
- Some projects include recurring customer calls — when they do, attendance is expected unless there is a conflict. You are the face of CSG on the job site and that extends to the call.
- Maintain an accurate, up-to-date picture of project progress and communicate it clearly to both the PM Lead and the customer
- Manage customer expectations on schedule, access, and site conditions with professionalism and honesty
- Coordinate with utility and inspection representatives on timing as required
Safety
- Own job-site safety documentation, pre-task planning, and incident reporting
- Enforce safety standards consistently across all subcontractor crews on site
- Maintain OSHA compliance records for all active projects
- Work with our in-house field electrician to build a consistent site safety culture across all CSG jobs
What Success Looks Like — First 90 Days
- In seat and oriented on all active projects within two weeks of start
- Established direct working relationships with field subcontractor leads and crew supervisors across active projects
- Clear communication cadence established with Sena (weekly PM sync minimum)
- Safety documentation current and organized on all active jobs
- No schedule surprises that weren't flagged in advance
QualificationsRequired
- Local to Massachusetts — this role requires consistent on-site presence across eastern MA, with occasional projects in NH and RI.
- Strong, hands-on background in active construction management — you must understand how a construction site actually runs: sequencing, crew dynamics, subcontractor accountability, and what it takes to keep a job moving. Solar experience is strongly preferred; parallel fields such as electrical, civil, or commercial construction considered.
- Solid working knowledge of electrical work — not necessarily a licensed electrician, but understand the scope, sequencing, and language of electrical installation well above the average person. You will be coordinating and holding electrical subcontractors accountable on a daily basis.
- Comfortable working alongside and earning the respect of tradespeople and field crews — you can walk a job site, speak plainly, and hold your own with experienced construction professionals
- Digitally competent: construction management platforms, Excel, Word, Google Worksuite, and document and photo management are part of your daily workflow. We will onboard you to our specific systems and processes; expectation that you're comfortable with these tools in a construction context.
- Strong communicator in both directions — equally at home updating a remote manager in writing and having a direct conversation on a job site
- Valid driver's license
- OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain within first 60 days)
Preferred — Not Required
- Experience working with and coordinating multiple subcontractor crews on active sites
We Are Actively Seeking Candidates With These Qualifications
The following are not just nice-to-haves — they are qualifications we are genuinely pursuing. If you bring any of these, lead with them. They will directly influence your role scope, title, and compensation:
- Licensed Electrician (Journeyman or Master) — a Master Electrician license is especially valuable given our GC + electrical capability stack. If you hold this license, tell us upfront.
- Solar Estimating experience — candidates who can read plans, build takeoffs, & understand cost modeling bring construction-level depth that accelerates your value from day one and opens doors within the company as we scale
- Experience on federal, military, or municipal projects — compliance-heavy, inspection-driven environments are part of our portfolio.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a self-performed project scope — we are building toward selective self-performance and the right candidate will be part of that
What We Offer
We offer a comeptitive salary to those in the field
- - range discussed; differentiated qualifications (electrician license, estimating) reflected in comp
- Company wide performance-based compensation
- Company vehicle — Hyundai Ioniq 5 available.
- Insurance
- Direct access to company leadership — this is a lean team; your work matters and is visible
- Real growth path: as the company scales from $10M toward $15-20M, the PM department grows with it
