Childcare Coordinator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Manages, directs and coordinates before and after school care (Health & Wellness) and day camp operations for the branch. Ensures continuation of high quality programs and works to establish new program activities. Continually works to expand community reach of child care programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance with the Senior Program Director, develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality. Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed. Maintains proper documentation for Bright From the Start, the State of Georgia’s Licensing division (i.e., CACFP Food Program, Licensing, CAPS, daily attendance records, transportation and medication logs). (we are currently not a licensed program – this may apply to future) Develops and implements activity structure and content for Child Watch and Mom’s Day Out. Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living. Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Provides staff leadership for annual fund‑raising campaign and committees as assigned. Maintains proper records/department files. Reviews payments, receipts, late fees, immunization forms and registrations for all participants. Organizes and works with special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fund‑raising activities. Assists with and attends Program Committee and Child Care Cabinet meetings. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. Prevents incidents of child abuse, identifies incidents of child abuse and reacts properly in the event they occur. Assists in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service. Assists in the annual Priceless Gifts fundraising program for the YMCA of Coastal Georgia. Maintains a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, parents and children. Performs all other duties as assigned. Employees and volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization. An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES The Child Care Coordinator is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the program site. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent sound working knowledge of child development principles and professional training working with school‑age kids. One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child‑care programs. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood‑Borne Pathogens; and annual state licensing training. Must be able to fulfill criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and complete YMCA program‑specific certifications. Must be at least 21 years of age. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
