Job Summary Job Description Summary: MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Pay Rate: Hourly; Pay Grade: Health-22; Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40. Key Responsibilities The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information into patients’ medical records. Prepares treatment rooms for patient examination. Uses basic computer skills; maintains annual competencies. Follows detailed instructions for therapeutic procedures and performs accurate physical observations of patients. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations Certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), MedCA, or as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers, or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider, or an AHA‑recognized equivalent. Physical Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs. Ability to work from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces, and from kneeling positions. Ability to bend, twist, squat, and reach in all directions. Ability to perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands and to grasp firmly. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted and to lift / lower objects of 50 lbs. from the floor to 36 inches unassisted. Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. and to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Ability to use lower extremities for balance and coordination. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one or both eyes; maintain hearing acuity, with correction. Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime as required, and in a latex‑safe environment.
