Senior Medical Director, Clinical Development

Exelixis seeks a Senior Medical Director to lead clinical development for oncology products, overseeing early and late-stage trials, protocol design, safety monitoring, and regulatory submissions. The role requires medical expertise in oncology and substantial experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical drug development.

Responsibilities

• Lead clinical trial strategy development and execution for oncology products in development
• Design, prepare, and initiate study protocols in compliance with federal regulations and GCP standards
• Serve as medical monitor for company-sponsored trials, assessing safety and eligibility
• Collaborate with internal safety teams to analyze and report trial safety data
• Supervise direct reports and coordinate with key opinion leaders and clinical investigators

Requirements

• MD with board certification or eligibility in Oncology or Hematology/Oncology preferred
• Minimum 8 years post-residency experience in drug development or clinical research
• Hands-on experience designing, executing, and monitoring controlled oncology clinical trials
• Experience with molecular targeted or immunological therapy studies
• Knowledge of biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology, and genetics relevant to oncology
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and matrix management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication and relationship-building abilities

Compensation: $312,500 - $444,000 base annually
