Traveling Fiber Technician

Business Unit: Aquila Corporation Department: Construction Employment Status: Full-time, Non-exempt, Hourly Compensation: We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to any other employees in the same or similar role. The Fiber Splicing Technicians are responsible for splicing fiber, including all related tasks while working throughout multiple phases of a project, necessary to the installation of various utilities and associated units in various fields, including but not limited to power, telecom, water, and sewer in a construction environment as necessary for commercial or residential construction projects. Position requires weekly travel Monday-Friday (weekends as needed) primarily throughout OH/IN/IL/KY (not a comprehensive list, may vary). Duties (Including, but not limited to) Install, maintain, and repair various types of fiber optic cables and equipment. Perform fiber optic splicing and termination. Conduct testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems. Ensure acceptable testing and turnover of splicing on time. Maintain accurate records. Continuous focus on safety. Responsible for upkeep and maintaining company vehicle, inventory, and small tools. Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines. Experience Mechanical knowledge for handling fiber optic cables and equipment. Two to three years of experience working as a Fiber Splicing Technician. Familiarity with fiber optic splicing and termination techniques. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Familiarity with various splicing machines, OTDRs, power meters, and other associated equipment. Requirements High School Diploma or GED preferred. Valid Driver’s License. Demonstrate ability to read blueprints and maps. Skilled in fiber optic splicing. Proficient with fusion splice machine and fiber testing equipment. Knowledge of cable size, gauge, count, and colors of direction. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work with little supervision. Willingness to learn. Ability to maintain equipment and hand tools. Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Abide all company and manufacturer safety procedures and industry safety standards, in addition to attending mandatory safety meetings. Physical and Environmental Factors Ability to work outdoors and to work in all types of outdoor weather. Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry, and lift as needed. Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movement. Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods of time. 100% Field.
