Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting. FLEX Department The FLEX department allows employees to float to most clinical areas of the organization, primarily the Smithfield and Clayton hospital campuses and the Hospice House (Inpatient Hospice facility). Scheduling is flexible with 12‑hour shifts, and weekend and holiday shifts are required. The FLEX team includes over 80 nurses and nursing assistants. Responsibilities Education – Identifies and meets learning needs of self; attends education programs; uses patient education materials; assesses patient/family readiness to learn. Evaluation of Care – Identifies expected patient outcomes; seeks guidance for plan of care revision; participates in interdisciplinary discussions; communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems; performs bedside point‑of‑care testing; follows organizational, nursing, and policy standards; prioritizes care; consults appropriate resources for complex cases and discharge planning. Leadership – Develops and achieves goals for professional growth; participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities; uses communication systems effectively; promotes cost‑effective care; provides feedback; ensures a safe, clean, secure environment. Patient Assessment – Synthesizes assessment data into a comprehensive whole; anticipates discharge needs; builds relationships that empower families to advocate for the patient. Planning – Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update care plans; uses multidisciplinary resources; addresses cultural and ethnic considerations; prioritizes tasks for complex problems. Research – Reads relevant journals; brings ideas and questions to the staff for evaluation of applicability. Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. Licensure / Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements One (1) year of nursing experience.
