Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PACU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years minimum in ER, ICU or PACU License: Valid state nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS Must-Have: Pre-Op and PACU experience Proficiency with EPIC No first-time travelers Description: This position involves working in a combined Pre-Op and PACU unit. The nurse will work three 12-hour variable shifts per week, which may include weekend shifts. There will be a minimum of 2 to 3 call shifts required. All nurses are trained to work in both Pre-Op and PACU. The average daily census is between 35 to 50 patients. Patient populations include pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, though there is limited pediatric care. RNs will primarily work in either Pre-Op or PACU based on scheduling needs. Call is required for all staff, with shifts from 10 PM to 5 AM on weekdays and weekends. Travelers are typically the first to float to different areas within surgical services. All surgical patients will be seen by a pre-op RN. The unit supports a busy surgical program and is staffed 24/7. The nurse will care for patients in both pre- and post-operative settings when called in. Required skills include IV starts, airway assessment, and pain management. The unit deals with a variety of surgical cases, including general surgery, neuro, orthopedic, and vascular surgeries. Previous charge experience is preferred. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Travelers must adhere to a call policy including a 30-minute call-back time. Module training is required and includes both pre-start and annual requirements. Travelers may expect to float between units and cover additional services as needed.
