Locations Merced, CA Modesto, CA Job Summary Under direction of Material Damage leadership, the Material Damage Sr. Field Appraiser performs the essential functions of the position, which includes but is not limited to: Duties and Responsibilities Ensures equitable settlement of damages and maintains good customer service and shop relations. Inspect and evaluate either in the field or virtually the degree of physical damage to vehicles for first and third party claims; complete detailed summary of damage and estimate cost of repair based on knowledge of equipment, parts and present values. Present estimates and reach agreed upon price with repair facility, and confirm assessment of damages and costs; negotiate settlements with related parties as necessary. Research actual cash value of vehicles and parts by gathering and analyzing current market information to reach a settlement for total losses. Take photographs of vehicle and physical damage to aid in the determination of liability and to substantiate findings; submit with completed reports and thorough documentation. Perform re-inspections and/or authorize supplemental repairs as necessary to ensure quality service and thorough restoration of damage. Maintain communication with clients throughout repair process; report initial evaluation and summary of damage, explain relevant procedures, respond to customer inquiries; provide complete, courteous and timely customer service. Keep abreast of current values of vehicles and parts, changes in the industry and in Company policies and procedures; ensure ongoing adjudication of claims within company standards and industry best practices and regulations. Produce grammatically correct and clearly written correspondence including letters, memos, reports and claim file documentation. Comply with state and federal laws, Department of Insurance criteria, insurance carrier criteria and follow and enforce Aspire General Insurance/partner’s policies, procedures and work rules. Write appraisals using licensed software. Maintain regular and predictable punctuality and attendance. Other duties as necessary. Requirements Ten plus years’ experience in Property and Casualty insurance industry. College degree preferred. Must have a clear understanding of insurance industry practices, standards and terminology. Ten plus years of Auto vehicle estimating, all types of vehicle damage claims and repairs and total losses including the most complex repairs with little to no management oversight. Assist supervisor in the onboarding and assimilation of new team members. Assist MD leadership in resolving complex and difficult claims including working and negotiating with the most difficult body shops, tow yards and storage facilities. Must be able to pass a background check with the anticipated goal of acquiring and maintaining a current Independent Adjuster License with the Department of Insurance. Must have a disciplined approach to all job‑related activities. Must have a solid foundation of personal organization, sound decision making, analytical skills, strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Inter‑relationship Component Ability to develop excellent working relationships with staff, clients and shops. Ability to communicate with others in an effective and friendly manner, fostering a spirit of goodwill and a professional environment. Ability to be a team player and work cohesively with other Company Partners and staff to achieve company goals. Able to represent the company in a professional manner and contribute to the corporate image. Able to consistently provide excellent client service. Working Conditions This is a non‑exempt position which complies with alternative work schedules when applicable. This position may require mandatory overtime as deemed appropriate by management. The office is in a highly technical, paperless environment. Travel may be required. Vision abilities to work at close range and with small print. Physical effort required includes typing, repetitive small motor activity, grasping, stooping, reaching, standing, lifting light objects under 10 pounds frequently and climbing occasionally with a small step ladder to reach supplies.
