Per Diem Athletic Trainer

Job Summary The MGB Center for Sports Medicine is an initiative aimed at becoming a nationally recognized regional leader in sports medicine by integrating the existing capabilities across the MGB system—including academic medical centers, community hospitals, and the physical therapy/rehab network—into a targeted incremental investment program. The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for providing medical coverage of athletic training room duties and athletic events for a local high school athletic program. The role includes assessment of injured athletes, providing appropriate medical treatment, and collaboration with the Director of Athletics and Team Physician. Responsibilities Comprehensive management of the Sports Medicine Program for the assigned high school. Provision of immediate assessment and care for injuries for the school’s interscholastic athletic teams. Plan, implement, evaluate, and modify preconditioning, conditioning, and reconditioning programs for athletes as defined in MGL c. 112, s. 23A. Review all pre-participation medical forms and information relevant to student‑athletes’ initial medical clearance to participate in the interscholastic athletic program. Provide athletic training services to student athletes participating in sports (games and practices) held at home sites and away sites. Coordinate practice/event coverage for the Athletic Department and communicate schedules with appropriate parties. Communicate with athletic administration, coaches, parents, primary care physicians, and specialists regarding injury diagnosis, treatment, injury trends, medical and health alerts, etc. as needed regarding specific athletes. Document and track athletic injuries via the established documentation system and manage the database of injury incidence. Design, implement, and carry out injury prevention programs with student athletes based on sport‑specific injury trend reports. Use MGB values to govern decisions, actions, and behaviors. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Board of Certification (BOC) certification and Massachusetts licensure as an Athletic Trainer required. Bachelor’s degree required. 1–3 years of relevant experience preferred. Skills and Competencies Accurate documentation of objective medical information, adherence to institutional policies and regulations for infection control, equipment safety, confidentiality, fire and disaster plans, and effective communication with tact, good judgment, and timeliness.
