Part-Time Art Curator Assistant: Shape Traveling Exhibitions

Assistant Curator of Art Location: Oklahoma City, OK (On-Site) Employment Status: Part-Time (29 hr/wk) Reports To: Curator of Art and Traveling Exhibitions Salary: $42,000 – $45,000 annually (commensurate with experience and adjusted for market location) Position Summary The Assistant Curator of Art is responsible for assisting the Curator of Art in stewarding, researching, and developing the art collection of the Museum of the Bible. The role includes organizing quarterly art advisory council meetings, maintaining minutes, coordinating scheduling, updating the collections website and TMS database, assisting in research and provenance studies, cataloging items, and supporting the development of dynamic on‑site and traveling exhibitions that celebrate the museum’s mission. Duties and Responsibilities Assist in managing and cataloging new acquisitions, gathering photos, measurements, and documentation, and updating TMS and Piction. Help schedule and organize quarterly art advisory council meetings, communicate with members, coordinate schedules, and keep meeting minutes. Support the development of a roster of traveling exhibitions and collaborate with the website team to build dedicated webpages. Assist with upcoming temporary art exhibitions as needed. Coordinate conservation, imaging, or research for objects within the art collection. Work with the education department to create programs that enhance exhibitions and engage new and diverse audiences. Coordinate implementation of interpretive materials, publicity items, and related products with other departments. Maintain provenance documentation and record-keeping for art objects. Assist with installation and de‑installation of temporary and traveling exhibitions. Champion the museum’s mission to invite all people to engage with the transformative power of the Bible. Perform additional duties as assigned. Education Master’s degree in art, art history, museum studies, or a related field. Advanced degree and museum experience preferred. Qualifications Commitment to the museum’s mission of inviting all people to engage with the Bible. Knowledge of biblical art. Experience working collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to manage tasks efficiently, keeping projects on time and on budget. Preferred Qualifications Experience in lecturing, teaching, and public speaking. Experience working in a museum or archive. Ability to communicate effectively with software developers for technological needs. Ability to communicate effectively with people from all backgrounds. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and database software. Ability to plan and deliver work and projects to budget and schedule. Work Environment / Physical Demands The position is in a professional office environment, regularly using computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Physical duties include standing, walking, using hands for handling or feeling objects, and reaching with hands and arms. Ability to lift at least 30 pounds and up to 50 pounds (e.g., rack and un‑rack computer and storage hardware).
