Director of Finance

Korn Ferry has been exclusively retained to lead the search for a Director of Finance on behalf of a highly entrepreneurial alternative investment management firm specializing in opportunistic credit and special situations investing. Managing more than $3 BN AUM, the firm invests across a diverse range of complex credit strategies and operates with a lean, collaborative team where every professional has meaningful influence across the platform. As the firm continues to grow, leadership is seeking an experienced finance executive who enjoys broad ownership, thrives in dynamic environments, and wants to serve as the firm's senior internal finance leader. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Director of Finance will oversee the firm's finance and accounting function, leading both fund finance and management company accounting while serving as the primary financial partner to the investment team and executive leadership. This individual will work closely with external fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors while maintaining responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement of the firm's financial infrastructure. Unlike larger asset managers where responsibilities are often highly specialized, this role offers true end-to-end ownership across the finance function. Key Areas of Impact Serve as the firm's senior internal finance leader, overseeing both fund finance and management company accounting. Lead financial operations across more than 20 investment funds and related entities, including investor allocations, capital activity, management fees, liquidity planning, and complex fund accounting. Coordinate closely with external fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Oversee management company accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, payroll, accounts payable, and financial statement preparation. Partner directly with investment professionals and executive leadership on fund operations, reporting, liquidity management, and strategic initiatives. Drive process improvements, automation, and operational enhancements that strengthen the firm's finance infrastructure. Operate as a trusted advisor across the platform, balancing technical accounting expertise with commercial judgment and operational leadership. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA required. 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience within private equity, hedge funds, private credit, or alternative investment management. Deep understanding of private fund accounting, investor allocations, management fees, carried interest, waterfalls, and alternative investment structures. Experience overseeing both fund finance and management company accounting within an investment management organization. Proven ability to manage relationships with external fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and alternative investment fund structures. Demonstrated success operating within lean, entrepreneurial organizations where broad ownership and hands-on leadership are expected. Advanced Excel skills required; experience with modern fund accounting platforms preferred.
