The unit consists of 20 beds with a patient ratio of 6:1. Support staff includes technicians available on day and night shifts, and a unit secretary during day shifts. The unit is equipped with various technology including IV pumps, telemetry, SCDs, continuous pulse oximeters, feeding pumps, PCA, EKG machines, and bladder scanners. The documentation system used is Meditech. Scheduling requires working three 12-hour shifts per week and two weekends in a four-week schedule. Floating may occur based on staffing needs and will follow rotation procedures. The nurse is expected to provide attentive and compassionate care to patients and their families. Bedside shift reporting and personal connections with patients and family members are encouraged. The unit is certified for comprehensive stroke care and is an ACS verified level II trauma center.
