Job Description Director of Engineering Operations San Diego | Full-Time | Leadership & Ownership Track Opportunity Position Overview An established Southern California engineering consulting firm is seeking a Director of Engineering Operations to oversee day-to-day operations, project delivery, staff performance, and business operations across the organization. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Professional Engineer who enjoys balancing operational leadership with project involvement. Working closely with company ownership, this individual will play a critical role in driving project success, improving operational efficiency, developing staff, and supporting the firm's long‑term growth and succession plans. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Lead daily operations across engineering and technical teams Monitor staffing, workload, and resource allocation Facilitate project and operations meetings Drive accountability and operational excellence Implement process improvements and operational efficiencies Project Delivery & Financial Performance Oversee active project performance, schedules, and budgets Monitor utilization, profitability, backlog, and forecasting Identify project risks and implement corrective actions Support invoicing discipline and overall business performance Team Leadership Supervise project managers, engineers, and technical staff Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback Support recruiting, onboarding, and workforce planning Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high‑performing culture Systems & Process Management Improve project delivery workflows and quality control processes Support implementation and optimization of ERP, CRM, and project management systems Increase visibility into resource planning and project forecasting Client & Business Support Maintain strong client relationships Participate in project and client meetings Support business development and company growth initiatives Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field Active Professional Engineer (PE) license 10+ years of engineering, project management, or operational leadership experience 5+ years managing engineering teams Experience delivering land development, site development, private development, and/or public works projects Strong understanding of project financial management, staffing, and resource planning Experience within a consulting engineering firm Familiarity with surveying operations and multidisciplinary teams Experience with utilization management, backlog forecasting, and operational systems Technical Skills Experience with the following is highly valued: AutoCAD Civil 3D AutoCAD Bluebeam ArcGIS / GIS Platforms Microsoft Excel BQE Core Deltek Ajera or Deltek Vision Epicor ERP CRM and project management systems Compensation & Benefits

$150,000 – $175,000 DOE
