School-Based Occupational Therapist

Position Overview

The Norwalk School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Occupational Therapist (OT) to support students in developing the skills necessary for academic success and daily functioning. This position will float between multiple school sites and manage a caseload of approximately 50 students . The OT will collaborate with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to provide services aligned with individualized education programs (IEPs).

Key Responsibilities

• Assess students’ fine motor, sensory processing, and functional skills to determine eligibility for occupational therapy services

• Manage and support a caseload of approximately 50 students across multiple school sites

• Travel between assigned campuses to provide services based on student needs and schedules

• Develop and implement individualized therapy plans in accordance with IEP goals

• Provide direct and consultative OT services in classroom and/or pull-out settings

• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to support student development and access to curriculum

• Monitor student progress and maintain compliant documentation and reports

• Participate in IEP meetings, student study teams, and multidisciplinary planning sessions

• Recommend adaptive equipment and modifications to improve student independence

• Ensure compliance with state, federal, and district regulations

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program

• Current California Occupational Therapist license

• NBCOT certification preferred

• Experience working in a school-based or pediatric setting preferred

• Ability to effectively manage a multi-site schedule and caseload

• Knowledge of special education laws, IEP processes, and IDEA requirements

• Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills

Minimum Requirements:

• Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the State of practice

• One (1) year of prior professional Occupational Therapy experience preferred

• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

• Current CPR if applicable

• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
