This is an entry-level opportunity for an individual looking to develop their structural design skills while working alongside experienced engineers and designers.In this role, you will work under the supervision and direction of experienced engineers, supporting the development of structural designs, drawings, models, and project documentation. You will contribute as a team member on projects of varying size and complexity while gaining practical experience with structural systems, building codes, design software, and project delivery.Your Key ResponsibilitiesSupports project teams in the development of structural design documentation, plans, models, and reportsAssists in the development of structural designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, calculations, and other visual formatsUtilizes BIM technologies to develop three-dimensional models of building structural systemsPrepares and revises drawings and documentation during various project phases, including floor plans, framing plans, diagrams, sections, and detailsPerforms basic structural calculations for building elements and well-defined structural systems under the guidance of experienced engineersAssists with coordination of structural designs with architectural and other engineering disciplinesAssists in the review of shop drawings and submittals and preparation of responses to RFIsAssists with site observations and preparation of field observation reports as neededAttends project coordination meetings with internal team members and external consultantsSupports project teams with basic cost estimating and value engineering activitiesApplies applicable design standards, building codes, and established engineering practices under the direction of experienced engineersPerforms other structural design and project support activities as assignedYour Capabilities and CredentialsBasic understanding of structural engineering and building design principlesFamiliarity with gravity and lateral force-resisting structural systemsBasic knowledge of structural materials such as steel, concrete, masonry, and woodFamiliarity with structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codesBasic understanding of construction drawings and engineering documentationAbility to develop and interpret plans, sections, details, and structural modelsAbility to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage assigned tasks to meet project schedulesAbility to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project teamStrong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skillsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office SuiteExperience with Revit is preferredFamiliarity with AutoCAD, Newforma, RAM Structural System, Tekla Structural Designer, RISA, Enercalc, or similar structural design software is a plusEducation and ExperienceAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered**0–3 years of relevant structural design, drafting, or engineering experience**Previous internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience involving structural or building design is preferredLEED Green Associate or other relevant credentials are a plusPrimary Location: United States | TX | HoustonOrganization: BC-2221 Buildings-US South EngineeringEmployee Status: RegularTravel: NoSchedule: Full timeJob Posting: 18/09/ :09:01Req ID: Stantec provides equal employment opportunities to all qualified employees and applicants for future and current employment and prohibit discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, genetic information, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
