About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience required License: Current state RN license required Certifications: AHA BLS required Must-Have: Teaching hospital experience required Description: Must have oncology skills checklist. Position specializes in medical surgical oncology. Shifts will include rotating days of the week. Candidate must be comfortable with and have prior experience in flexible staffing ratios. Nursing staff provides care to patients recovering from surgical interventions needed to manage their cancer diagnoses and related complications. This unit primarily cares for patients with known cancer diagnoses needing surgical interventions. Nursing care is tailored to achieve specific post-operative milestones for discharge. No chemotherapy or biotherapy is administered on this unit. Majority of patients have diagnoses related to the abdomen or pelvic area, including gynecologic, colorectal, pancreatic, liver, and stomach cancers. New and innovative technology is incorporated into everyday workflows. Nurses are provided educational resources to support knowledge of special precautions related to each procedure. Floating to other units may be required based on facility needs. Daily census for the unit is approximately 33 patients. Staffed beds in this unit total 36. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Patient demographics primarily consist of adults.
