Essential Job Duties

Join a dynamic and growing Violence Prevention & Threat Management team as an Assistant Director/Case Manager, where your work directly contributes to campus safety and well-being. In this role, you will support the Director of Risk Assessment and play a key part in advancing the university's behavioral threat assessment, case management, and prevention efforts. As referrals to the Behavior Assessment Team (BAT) and outreach initiatives continue to expand, this position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a high-visibility, mission-driven program.

This full-time, 12-month position collaborates closely with campus partners, including Academic and Student Affairs and Human Resources, to support a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to threat assessment and intervention. As the Case Manager, you will lead and support behavioral threat assessments using structured professional judgment-conducting intake, gathering and analyzing information, assessing risk, and documenting cases. You will coordinate case reviews, develop and implement individualized management strategies, and work with stakeholders to monitor and reduce risk. Your attention to detail will ensure accurate records, timely follow-up, and compliance with institutional policies and applicable laws.

This role may include on-call responsibilities to respond to emerging concerns and provide operational support to the Behavior Assessment Team. You will also contribute to prevention, consultation, and training initiatives that promote early identification, reporting, and intervention. Working with students, employees, and non-affiliated individuals, you will help foster a safer campus environment grounded in best practices.

Additional duties include:

Consulting and Advising (Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management) - 30% Play a central role in identifying and addressing potential risks to campus safety. You will conduct behavioral threat assessments using a structured, evidence-informed approach to evaluate concerning behaviors, risk factors, and potential for harm. In partnership with campus stakeholders, you'll develop and implement individualized management strategies that focus on risk reduction, stabilization, and prevention. This includes safety planning with potential victims and providing expert consultation to faculty, staff, and students on warning signs, concerning behaviors, and risk indicators. You will also coordinate multidisciplinary interventions and connect individuals to appropriate campus and community resources.

Professional Knowledge and Case Management Practice - 30% Bring your analytical skills and professional expertise to dynamic case management work. You will gather and synthesize behavioral and contextual information to assess and monitor risk over time, recognizing that situations evolve. Using best practices in threat assessment, you'll maintain clear, objective documentation and ensure cases are actively managed, with strategies adjusted as needed to address changes in behavior or circumstances.

Communication and Multidisciplinary Collaboration - 20% Be part of a highly collaborative team committed to prevention and coordinated response. As an active member of the Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT) and the NC State Cares Team, you'll contribute to case reviews and planning efforts. You will work closely with partners across campus-including General Counsel, Counseling Services, Employee Relations, Student Conduct, and University Police-to ensure responses are thoughtful, legally sound, and focused on safety. You'll also engage with external agencies and law enforcement when situations require elevated response.

Outreach and Prevention - 20% Help shape a proactive culture of safety and awareness. You will support the development and delivery of training and outreach initiatives that empower the campus community to recognize and report concerning behaviors early. Your work will contribute to broader institutional efforts to prevent targeted violence, workplace violence, and other forms of harm through education, engagement, and early intervention.

Other Responsibilities

Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.
