The primary patient population includes cardiovascular and vascular surgery patients. This includes care for patients undergoing open heart surgery, thoracic lung surgery, and vascular procedures. Overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure and sepsis will also be admitted. The unit has 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds and approximately 100 staff members. Patient-to-nurse ratios are typically 1:5. The work environment is fast-paced and requires a team-oriented approach. Equipment used includes IV pumps and epidural pumps. Common procedures include epidural management, chest tube management, and cardiac medication management. A flexible attitude and preference for teamwork are essential for this role. Candidates without the required skills will not be considered. Preferred qualifications include experience with surgical populations within the last year. Weekend shifts are expected, with a minimum of six weekend shifts required in a six-week schedule period.
