Facilities TechnicianLocated in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is a newly independent public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. A proud Hispanic Serving Institution, it awards certificates and associate degrees that serve the needs of its region and prepare students to transfer to programs at other colleges or universities. SENMC offers a generous benefits package which includes medical, dental, retirement, and college tuition reimbursement.Under general supervision of the Director of Facilities the Facilities Technician will perform multi-craft functions for the college. Functions may include non-technical electrical, plumbing, grounds, carpentry, locksmith, custodial, and painting; provides day-to-day coordination, teamwork, and leadership to other employees performing similar work.The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the scope of work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this classification.Monitors, maintains, and performs standard repairs to buildings and grounds.Assists licensed electrician with non-technical repairs.Monitors performance of heating, ventilation, and cooling systems; performs standard repair and replacement of components.Performs non-technical maintenance tasks such as cleaning of heating and cooling fan coil units and adjustment of system controls.Performs non-technical maintenance of plumbing systems, including standard repair of leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed waste lines, installing water coolers, and/or performing non-technical modifications to plumbing and water supply systems.Performs carpentry maintenance tasks including routine sheetrock/drywall installation and/or repair, window, roof, cabinet, and countertop replacement, painting and texturing, and door and hardware installation, paint interior and exterior finishes, as appropriate.May perform general maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks.Maintains the inventory of parts and supplies for facilities repairs; orders materials as needed.Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.Documents facilities maintenance requirements; maintains appropriate records of work performed.Performs snow removal, as required.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.Knowledge of one or more building trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, utility operations, building maintenance, and carpentry.Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.Ability to assist with repair and maintenance of heating and cooling equipment.Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.Records maintenance skills.Use of computer and video display terminal for extended periodsManual dexterity and fine motor skillsAbility to communicate information orally and in writingAbility to receive and interpret written and verbal instructionsOccasional bending, stooping, kneeling, or reachingMay require flexible scheduling to support infrastructure needs, emergencies, or system deploymentsPerforming the essential functions of this position requires the use of a computer throughout most of the workday, the ability to navigate a typical office environment, significant amounts of interpersonal interaction including oral and written communication, and the ability to keep track of multiple tasks, projects, deadlines, information sources, and business processes.SENMC is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer dedicated to excellence through diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status, military or veteran status, sexual orientation, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law.
