LAW CLERK

The Clark County District Attorney's Office is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Law Clerk position. This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies located in our Civil, Juvenile and/or Criminal Divisions. Law Clerks provide support to our staff of attorneys by performing legal research and writing on legal issues. Law Clerks interpret and apply laws, court decisions and other legal authorities in the preparation of briefs, pleadings, legal opinions and other legal documents. Law Clerks who are barred in Nevada may be allowed to make court appearances on behalf of the County. This is an open and continuous recruitment, scheduling dates will vary depending on when the application was received and reviewed by Human Resources. Eligibility Students in or entering their final year of ABA accredited law school are encouraged to apply; employment is contingent upon receiving your Juris Doctor degree by the time of appointment. Responsibilities Research applicable legal and factual issues using computerized techniques and/or law library materials at the direction of an attorney or judge. Interpret and apply laws, court decisions and other legal authorities in the preparation of briefs, pleadings and other legal papers. Draft memoranda, opinions and other documents related to findings on specific cases or issues. Research and explain departmental, County and State procedures to attorneys and departmental support staff. Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Maintain accurate records and files; prepare a variety of records and reports as assigned. Use standard office equipment, including a computer in the performance of the work. May drive a personal or County vehicle in the course of the work. Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (professional doctorate) degree. Experience: Full‑time experience in performing legal research and/or writing legal opinions or documents is desirable. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application; details must be written in your own words and cannot be copied from job descriptions or other external sources. Background and Security Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation, which may include both a pre‑and post‑offer background check for positions within the District Attorney’s Office, and a test for controlled substances. Pre‑employment drug testing is required. Citizenship and Employment Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
