The Free Press is seeking Editorial Assistants! They play a key role in supporting the editorial team, working closely with writers and editors to help produce the journalism our readers  depend on every day. This role is for someone with ambition , a tireless work ethic, and belief in The Free Press founding mission. They will have the highest standards for their work and solid attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Helping to write our daily newsletter, with punchy, compelling copy that sells our stories and makes the case for why they matter.

• Assisting the assignment of essential stories by liaising with writers, sources and experts our readers want to hear from.

• Pitching timely ideas and reading submissions from contributors. Assisting the editorial team with administrative tasks.

• Loading and publishing stories to the website, ensuring proper formatting and timely posting.

Qualifications

• Exemplary writing and reporting skills.

• Ability to prioritize and multitask independently in a dynamic environment with fastidious attention to detail.

• An understanding of the Free Press mission and values.

• A curiosity about the world, and a desire to learn.

• Willingness to work early mornings, late nights, and weekends where necessary.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $67,000.00 - 75,000.00. 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
