Our employee‑owners collaborate across specialties, combining creativity, precision, and deep expertise to solve the most complex challenges facing our clients and communities.HDR is seeking a Cultural Resources Specialist II (Project Archaeologist) to help expand our services in the Midwest, with a focus on Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois. As a member of the Cultural Resources practice, you will support projects primarily within the Missouri / Kansas area with a focus on archaeological services for power, transportation, water resources, and other infrastructure projects.Primary responsibilities will include planning and leading archaeological fieldwork and teams, working on larger or complex cultural resources projects, and developing proposals and schedules. Other responsibilities could include supporting environmental constraints analysis and NEPA documentation. This position will require periodic travel. Preferred Qualifications A Master's Degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or closely related fieldMeet or exceed Secretary of Interior Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology and Historic PreservationA minimum of 5 years Archaeological experience with a minimum of 3 years experience in planning, managing, and executing archaeological investigationsProven ability to manage multiple projects at the same timeStrong leadership and supervision abilities, including problem solving, constructive conflict resolution, and decision makingStrong understanding of Section 106 of and experience with the regulatory framework surrounding cultural resources management (i.e., Section 106, Section 4(f), and NEPA)Experience conducting Section 106 consultation, including previous experience compiling survey data, prehistoric and historic context development, report writing, and completing NRHP evaluationsWillingness to travel and work under varied weather conditions and in various terrainsStrong technical writing and oral communication skills; basic computer skills (Microsoft Office products)Experience/capabilities with GIS a plusOther technical skills and specialties (i.e., lithic analysis, flotation, etc.) a plusPreference given to candidates local to St. Louis.Experience in Missouri, Kansas, and/or Illinois strongly preferred#LI-MV3QualificationsRequired Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field A minimum of 5 years experience in cultural resource projects Excellent oral and written communication skills Experience with Microsoft Office Suite Must demonstrate knowledge of and experience with project compliance-related activities including consultation, quality assurance and reviews Willingness to work under varied weather conditions Successful candidates must be familiar with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must What We BelieveHDR is our company.
